Every year, on 15th August, the whole country comes together in a spirit of patriotism to celebrate India’s Independence Day. For schools, this day is exciting and full of enthusiasm as students and teachers participate in various events like hoisting the national flag, singing patriotic songs, and many more. However, there is an additional significance associated with this day that schools and colleges can leverage to inculcate important values in kids and make them realize the importance of freedom.

## What Does Freedom Really Mean?

To kids, freedom means having the choice or opportunity to decide what and how they want to do things. As they grow up, they gradually realize that being free also means respecting the choices and decisions of others, as well as following certain rules and regulations.

On India’s Independence Day, schools can educate kids about the sacrifices made by freedom fighters and give them a clear idea about the kind of freedom they enjoy today. It gives educators an insight into teaching kids about patriotism and make them value the opportunities and rights available to them.

## Freedom Comes With Responsibility

Being free also means being responsible. It means exercising our right to make a choice while understanding the impact of those choices on our own lives and the lives of others. Educating kids about freedom can also be an innovative way to teach them responsibility. For example, in a school set-up, kids are often asked to follow specific rules and regulations and respect their teachers and classmates. Such actions enable them to develop important values like discipline and integrity that will help them to become responsible global citizens one day.

## Educating Kids to Be Responsible Global Citizens

Education has the potential to shape not only students’ career pathways but also prepare them to be better human beings. At SRS Global School, through a blend of academic, sports, arts, club activities, and cooperative activities, students are not only made to realize their potential but are also taught core values like responsibility and discipline that are essential to become good human beings.

## Teaching Kids About Patriotism

Patriotism is essentially about being conscious of the needs of the country. On the occasion of India’s Independence Day, schools can encourage kids to think of ways in which they can contribute to making the country better. They can also educate them about the importance of patriotism and develop a sense of duty-bound citizenship in them. Children can be encouraged to think about simple ways in which they can show patriotism like avoiding damaging public property, being respectful to elders, helping those in need, keeping their surroundings clean, etc.

Additionally, educators and parents can also ask kids about simple ways in which they can contribute to making society a better place. Asking them questions like ‘what can I do to make my country better,’ will give them food for thought and make them realize that they can be good citizens by making simple changes in their behavior or actions.

## Empowering Kids With Freedom to Achieve Their Dreams

One of the most important aspects of India’s freedom is that it has given every citizen the opportunity to dream and achieve their goals. As parents and educators, it is essential to encourage kids to think big and realize their potential.

Schools like SRS Global School create an environment that stimulates students’ natural curiosity and imagination and motivates them to explore their interests, learn new skills, and develop talents to achieve their goals. By providing the necessary resources and guidance, schools can encourage kids to turn their dreams into reality. This way, educators can also teach kids about patriotism as well as responsibility.

## Making Kids Realize the Significance of Independence Day

This year, as we celebrate India’s Independence Day, let us encourage kids to not only engage in exciting activities but also reflect on the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters and make them realize the need for patriotism. After all, freedom has enabled us to dream, learn, grow, and make better citizens of our country.
